HAPPY FATHER"S DAY!

I lOVE YOU DAD!

Summer Solstice

Today was supposed to be the longest day of the year. Unfortunately for my position here in Germany, it was cold and rainy all day. I was hoping for a sunny DAY! Oh well, maybe next year.

Relaxation

Monday, June 01, 2009
Today is Monday, June First, Two Thousand Nine. I can spell. And I have a story to tell…
I woke up at 5:14 this morning to the sound of my phone ringing. I thought that it was only my morning alarm waking my day. I realized that the tone was just not right and that it had to be a call. As I flipped my phone over to make out the name, I was startled to see that it was my one and only Gamma! It’s never too early to talk to her and besides it’s now daylight by 4:30 a.m. here in Germany. The birds had already awoken me by that time, but she had me stiff as she screamed into the phone in excitement about what she had just seen. And low and behold it was the new official trailer for Twilight’s New Moon movie. I’m excited too. I loved the entire saga and I think this next movie will be better than the first. But more importantly, I had such a wonderful talk with my great friend Caty Gamma. She lives in Utah, so as her world is tucking in, mine was waking up to what I thought was just going to be another regular day at the farm.
I felt motivated to work on some fitness, so I did a small workout that I have, and then prepared to go to the farm. I have borrowed a bike to get to the farm faster now and it is so much nicer compared to the walk that has become boring. I arrived at 7:30a.m. and nobody was in sight. I searched around and was very confused with what was happening. Usually, the farm is bustling with people by that time. I found Paula feeding horses and I asked where everyone was. She said it was a Sunday. My heart was literally in my throat. Not because this was a huge matter but that I felt suddenly extremely out of date. I suddenly grabbed my senses and declared that it most certainly was not and that it was Monday! She told me no it was a Sunday. Then I remembered it was a Feiertag here in Germany. I said, “Oh yeah, it’s feiertag!” That means it’s a holiday here. I don’t know exactly what for but it was. Paula then said, “yeah, a Sunday”. I was like “nooOOooo, our days in the week have names and it’s still a Monday even though it’s a feiertag also and a day off for everyone”. Phew, I was almost frustrated for no reason. Anyway, I took a little care of Roode and rode the bike back home. He could have the day off too…of walking (this is all he can do right now because he has an injury).
By 9a.m. I was home and the weather was sunny and nice so I decided to sit out on the lawn with my new book, Angels and Demons. I read, slept, read, and slept again. By the time I realized I should get out of the sun…it was a quarter past 11. Let me explain my ugly tan lines…I was wearing a polo so I basically have a farmers tan. And I still had my riding pants on rolled up right below the knee and my sneaks. It is not nice. I have white feet, tan shins, and white again the rest of the way up. I will hopefully get a time to fix this problem in the next week.
Anyway, the day got better. My landlady, her husband Hubert, and I drove to Mohnesee, Germany. Mohnesee is a big lake that I believe is restricted to motor boats. When we arrived there were so many people and the lake was filled with a mass of sail boats. It was so cool. Unfortunately I missed the chance to take a picture. There were so many people. We went for a walk on a nice path in the woods by the lake and shared stories all the while helping me better my German. They don’t know any English and I thought this might be a difficult day but it was so nice in the end. I understand more. I find it so difficult in general though. I get so tongue tied. We had a relaxing time at the nicest biergarten I have been to yet. After eating some huge raspberry cake, we walked through the gardens and drove home.
They’re son Christian invited me to go with him to a big party in Paderborn after they had just won they’re big Football (Soccer) game. Germans know how to have a good time. They had a huge stage set up outside the City Hall and several beer stands propped up immediately after they’re big win. The crowd was singing (I was too, to the songs I knew but don’t know what the lyrics mean. Hmmmm…), dancing, and waving they’re bright blue colors. I have a short video clip. And I have this awesome picture of this guy who obviously had too much to drink but he was very happy. When he saw me take the picture he came over to me and put his arms around me singing and swaying. He kept yelling Paderborn, and he wouldn’t let go of me until one of his buddies dragged him away. I was laughing the whole time. He was funny.
Now, I’m back home, Paderborn will be rocking it out until 4a.m. and I will be sleeping. I talked with a good friend and now it’s time for bed. Gute Nacht!
